Hip-hop superstar Cardi B has cemented her status as the queen of the 2026 BET Awards, leading the pack with six nominations, including the prestigious Album of the Year for Am I the Drama? The nominations, announced Tuesday, also featured a strong showing from Nigerian music heavyweights like Tems, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Asake, alongside acclaimed actors of Nigerian heritage.
Cardi B’s six nods—the most of any artist—span major categories, including Best Female Hip Hop Artist, Best Collaboration, and a spot in the newly introduced Fashion Vanguard Award category. Her nominations are largely anchored by the success of her second studio album, Am I the Drama?
Following closely are Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist, each securing five nominations. Other multiple nominees include Doechii, Doja Cat, and Teyana Taylor.
African music continues its global takeover, highlighted by Nigerian artists earning significant recognition:
- Tems received three nominations, including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and the BET Her Award for her song “First.”
- Wizkid and Asake earned a joint nomination in the Best Group category.
- Burna Boy is recognized for Best Collaboration for “WGFT” with Gunna.
The ceremony, hosted by comedian Druski, is set to take place on June 28 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The 2026 show will also debut two new honors: the Fashion Vanguard Award and the Pulse Award, which celebrate influence across fashion and digital culture.
Beyond music, Nigerian heritage is celebrated in the acting categories, with Ayo Edebiri and Cynthia Erivo nominated for Best Actress and Damson Idris nominated for Best Actor.
