HOW THE UAE IS QUIETLY BECOMING ONE OF AFRICA’S BIGGEST INVESTORS

If I asked you which country is investing the most in Africa, chances are the United States or China would come to mind.

But there’s another country that’s quietly making some very big moves…

The United Arab Emirates.

Over the past few years, the UAE has been pouring billions of dollars into Africa, investing in ports, agriculture, mining, transport, logistics and major infrastructure projects across the continent.

And here’s what’s interesting…

These aren’t short-term investments.

They’re long-term bets on Africa’s future.

The UAE sees Africa as one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. With a young population, huge natural resources and expanding cities, many investors believe the continent will play a much bigger role in the global economy over the next few decades.

But as the investments grow, so do the questions.

Some people believe this is exactly what Africa needs.

More investment means more jobs, better infrastructure, improved trade and stronger economies.

Others are a little more cautious.

They worry that if foreign countries own too many ports, mines or strategic assets, Africa could lose control over industries that are critical to its future.

So the real conversation isn’t whether investment is good.

It usually is.

The real question is: Who benefits the most?

Does the investment create opportunities for local businesses?

Does it create decent jobs?

Does it transfer skills and technology?

Or does most of the profit simply leave the continent?

Personally, I don’t think Africa should be afraid of foreign investment.

But I also don’t think Africa should accept every investment without asking tough questions.

Investment should be a partnership—not a dependency.

If a deal creates jobs, develops local industries and leaves the country better than it found it, then everyone wins.

But if Africa is only providing land and resources while others take most of the value, then it’s worth asking whether we’re negotiating the best deals.

Because at the end of the day, the goal isn’t just to attract investors.

The goal is to build stronger African economies.

So let me ask you…

Would you rather see Africa rely more on foreign investors, or should African countries invest more in one another instead?
