A groundbreaking new report from the Next Narrative Africa Fund (NNAF) and Parrot Analytics declares that the global entertainment industry is overlooking a massive, high-growth market: African and diasporan storytelling. The study, titled “From Influence to Investible: Quantifying Global Demand, Travelability & Investment Opportunity,” suggests that African content is already a powerful, globally traveling commodity, with demand significantly outstripping current supply, especially in key areas poised for explosive commercial success.

The Clear Investment Imperative

For years, the narrative around African content has focused on cultural importance and representation. This new research shifts the conversation entirely, framing African storytelling as a critical, structurally underexploited growth category for major streaming platforms and studios. The core finding is stark: global demand for African and diasporan film and television has outpaced supply every year over the past five years (2020-2025).

“African storytelling is not simply a cultural niche, but a structurally underexploited growth category for the global entertainment sector,” stated an NNAF spokesperson following the release of the report on Thursday.

The Non-English Opportunity

One of the most compelling findings points to a glaring structural gap in the market: non-English-language African stories. The researchers found that these titles account for a significant 28 percent of total audience demand within the cohort tracked by the study, yet they represent a mere 16 percent of available supply.

This 12-point deficit represents a clear, immediate investment opportunity for companies seeking fresh, high-demand content. The report argues that the imbalance is especially pronounced in genres that typically drive massive streaming engagement, suggesting that producers and investors who move quickly to capitalize on this demand will reap significant returns.

Next Narrative Africa Fund, spearheaded by Akunna Cook, has been building the case for a robust, strategic Hollywood-Africa partnership. This new quantitative data provides the ultimate proof point, signaling that the time for major investment into African creative industries is now. The report concludes that companies prioritizing these investments will secure a vital foothold in the next great wave of global streaming content.
