I recently experienced something that many business owners quietly endure.
From my business account, I needed to send an emergency payment.
My partner is a co-signatory, so approvals are required. Fair enough.
I added the recipient.
OTP sent to my phone.
Recipient verified. Smooth.
Then I attempted the transfer.
Error message: “Cool-off period for new recipient is 8 hours.”
Problem number one: I was never informed upfront that I would have to wait 8 hours before transferring.
This was an emergency payment.
Yes, cool-off periods exist for security. I understand the logic.
But the recipient already had an account with the same bank and had been fully KYC’d for years. The rule was applied blindly, without context.
I waited for 8 hours. Then I initiated the transfer again.
Status: Payment pending.
Confusion.
After navigating call menus and waiting over 30 minutes, I was informed that my partner needed to approve the transaction from their own login.
Problem number two: my partner was never notified.
No email. No SMS. No push notification. Nothing.
The only reason they knew was that I called them personally and asked them to log in.
From start to finish, what should have been a routine transfer took over 16 hours.
In business, 16 hours can mean missed opportunities, delayed salaries, and broken trust.
Security is non-negotiable.
But security without communication becomes friction.
At KiiBank, we apply similar safeguards — but with context and communication built into the flow.

If the recipient is already our customer, the cool-off logic is risk-based, not blindly applied.
If a co-signatory approval is required, the second party receives an instant notification informing them that a transfer is awaiting their action.
Security should protect funds.
It should not paralyse legitimate transactions.
Because transfers are not made for entertainment.
They are made for a purpose.
And respecting that purpose means respecting time.
Where have you seen security processes create unnecessary delays instead of intelligent protection? I’m interested in hearing real experiences.
